HAYLEY Swanson likes life in the fast lane.
The model and race car driver from Altona Meadows is preparing herself for a new challenge.
Fresh from a brilliant performance in the latest season of the Aussie Race Cars, Swanson has signed on to the Wayne Williams Racing Team as she prepares to make her debut in the Aussie Brute Utes.
Taking to the track and driving at blistering speeds is hard enough, but Swanson is taking thrill seeking to all-new heights having joined the competition with minimal ute experience.
Despite a few nerves, the 23-year-old can’t wait to get stuck into her first race, which will take place in Tasmania. “My first time ever in the ute is going to be this weekend. I’m a bit nervous but a lot of the drivers have been really helpful offering advice and that sort of thing,” she said.
“I think the group of drivers who are in the series are really friendly and they will give me a little bit of help. I am definitely pumped.”
Swanson isn’t setting too many expectations for herself early in the new season as she looks to find her feet in her new environment.
“It’s a huge opportunity. I looked at utes a couple of years ago and thought it was such an amazing category. I never thought I would get the opportunity to compete in there so soon into my racing career,” she said.
“It’s actually unbelievable to think that I am going to be on the grid with all these guys.”
Swanson is hoping to stay in the Aussie Brute Utes for a few years to continue her development as a driver.
She is also looking for assistance with sponsorship.
