HOBSONS Bay’s Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) is appealing for witnesses after an alleged assault in Laverton.
Police said a 24-year-old man was closing up a shop on the corner of Whittaker Ave and Bladin St around 9.30pm on Thursday 22 March when the attack occurred.
Police allege the man was about to enter his car to drive home in a back alley behind the shops when he was assaulted by three males and two females with what police believe was a bat or object of a similar description.
The attackers, believed to be youths aged between 14 and 18 years of age, did not make any demands for cash.
The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries and has since been released but will require ongoing treatment.
