FIREFIGHTER James Hall, left, and leading firefighter Shane Brogan from the Laverton North fire station want to remind all households to change their smoke alarm batteries on Sunday 7 April as part of the annual Change Your Clock, Change Your Smoke Alarm Batteries campaign. A new fire safety survey has found 38 per cent of Victorian/Tasmanian family homes have only one smoke alarm installed and 28 per cent sometimes disconnect their smoke alarm or take out batteries to prevent false alarms. “We can’t emphasise enough the importance of working smoke alarms and the importance of smoke alarms installed in correct locations,” MFB Commander John Rampling said. “Without working smoke alarms you are four times more likely to die in a house fire.” 96182 Picture: JOE MASTROIANNI
