A 23-YEAR-old man has been charged with the murder of his mother in Sunshine West.
Last Wednesday, Homicide Squad detectives charged the man with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder, following the death of his 59-year-old mother on Tuesday 26 March.
The woman was found dead in a bungalow in Roberts Crescent, after officers from the Critical Incident Response Team attended and arrested the man just before 10am.
Anyone with information about the death can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Superintendent Glenn Weir said police deployed “less-than-lethal tactical options which resulted in the arrest of the male” after he held police at bay for more than two hours.
“Police attempted to speak with the male offender and were confronted by him at his house. He was armed and threatened police,” Supt Weir said.
He said a subsequent search of his premises revealed the deceased woman at the rear of the premises.”
The woman also had “fairly significant trauma injuries” on her body at the time, according to police.
Supt Weir said earlier in the day, the 23-year-old had been involved in an alleged confrontation with three residents in Felstead Ave.
“We believe three people from other residences were involved in the neighbourhood dispute with the male in custody,” he said.
“They received minor lacerations and abrasions. We are still trying to determine if one of those injuries was caused by an edged weapon.”
Last Wednesday, the 23-year-old was deemed medically unfit to appear in court and was remanded in custody until 19 June this year.
