MELTON Police are warning would-be offenders that they will take a zero-tolerance approach to household items being used as weapons.
The warning comes after a 27-year-old Melton man was intercepted riding an unregistered motorcycle on Brennan St, Melton South on 22 March. A billiard ball in a sock was found in the male’s possession.
Police believe the item was clearly meant for use as a weapon and the male will be charged on summons.
Detective Senior Sergeant Barry Jenks said many household items can be taken from home and intended for use as a weapon and can be extremely dangerous.
Det Snr Sgt Jenks said police will have no hesitation in using available legislation to charge people found carrying weapons and dangerous articles.
Meanwhile a 19-year-old Werribee man will be charged on summons with assaulting police and a range of traffic offences.
The offender was stopped by police on the Western Freeway in Rockbank for driving an overloaded vehicle and speeding.
Police said he became violent when his vehicle was impounded. No one was seriously injured in the incident.
