Old and new rivalries set to face off

PARKSIDE and Port Melbourne Colts will renew their rivalry when the 2006 Western Region Football League season kicks off in April.
Reigning Division One premier Port Melbourne will host the Magpies in the opening round of what should be another actionpacked season with the introduction of the allconquering Division Two premiers, Altona.
The general structure of the league is similar to this year, with the season starting on 8 April and the grand final on 16 September.
The 10team competition will be spread over 18 rounds, with each side playing one another twice.
There will be two weeks without football – between rounds one and two for Easter and on the Queen’s Birthday weekend on 10 June.
Altona’s first task in Division One will be a trip to J.R. Parsons Reserve to take on Albion, while in another highlight, 2005 finalists St Albans and Hoppers Crossing will face off at Kings Park Reserve.
Andrew Jago will take over the reigns at Seddon/Yarraville Club, making his WRFL debut when he leads the Hawks in an opening away clash with Yarraville.
Sunshine will get its chance to atone for last season’s sixthplaced finish when it travels to meet Spotswood.
Hoppers Crossing and Port Colts were the standout teams of the 2005 season, finishing equal on top of the ladder with 14 wins apiece.
Parkside and Spotswood finished the season in blistering form, while St Albans clung onto fifth after a disappointing second half to the season.
North Sunshine and Seddon/Yarraville endured a yearlong relegation battle, and while both finished with just one win for the season the Roadrunners were sent to Division Two on percentage.
