KEIRAN McMahon can’t remember a time when he wasn’t dancing.
The Keilor Park resident has spent the past decade dedicated to dance and now hopes to set the stage alight when he performs in the hit show Burn the Floor.
Keiran, 20, said the show puts a contemporary slant on ballroom dancing, making it popular with both younger and older audiences.
“It’s classical ballroom with a twist,” he said.
“People love it, because it’s reinventing ballroom and turning it on its head.”
A top 10 finalist in the Australian reality show So You Think You Can Dance in 2009, Keiran said performing on stage is an indescribable experience.
“It’s a rush you can’t really describe. Your alter-ego takes over.”
But he admits the road to success is a long and often hard one.
A former Victorian College of the Arts student, Keiran spent most of his school years leaving the house at 6am and not returning until dark, now his days are filled with training, warm-ups and performing in front of a packed audience.
But in the end it’s all worth it, Keiran said.
“You would be surprised what you can achieve if you keep trying. The key is to stick to it.”
