High speed internet for some

NEW maps show residents in Airport West will get the National Broadband Network (NBN) next year – as long as they live on the right side of the road.
Residents living between the Western Ring Rd and Matthews Ave up to North St and King St in Airport West will receive the NBN in 12 months time.
But the maps reveal residents outside those areas will have to wait to find out when they’ll get the high speed internet connection.
Parts of Tullamarine, Gladstone Park, Gowanbrae and Strathmore will also receive the NBN in 12 months.
The NBN aims to provide faster, more reliable broadband with a free standard connection to homes and offices.
The maps were released last week and Calwell MP Maria Vamvakinou said they were a sign that work had begun.
“The National Broadband Network is about preparing Australia for the future,” she said.
“It’s about ensuring that our local communities aren’t left behind as the world and our local economy changes.”
She was joined by Maribyrnong MP Bill Shorten and Wills MP Kelvin Thomson in welcoming the release of the plans.
“From seeing your local doctor from home, to your kids being able to take a specialist class at another school – the NBN will change the way we live, work, and access services,” Mr Shorten said.
“It will lead to a new wave of innovation, and I’m delighted that people in our electorates will be among the first to benefit.”
