JOY Walsh has been a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for more than 27 years and when her husband Alan retired he also started volunteering.
“We do it every week,” Joy said.
Last week the council presented certificates of appreciation to the more than 60 Hobsons Bay Meals on Wheels volunteers.
The residents, who deliver more than 60,000 meals annually, were honoured at a celebration last Tuesday.
Councillor Bill Tehan said some of the volunteers had been with Meals on Wheels for decades.
Councillor Tony Briffa said the volunteers were an amazing bunch of people.
“So dedicated to serving Hobsons Bay.”
Volunteers like Joy and Alan give up their time every week to not only deliver meals to recipients but also check on their welfare.
Joy said she would continue volunteering as long as she was able and lived in Hobsons Bay.
“I like to be involved,” she said.
“The people are so welcoming, sometimes they don’t see anybody else.”
The 71-year-old said they were chuffed to receive their certificates.
“It shows we’re appreciated.”
“It was lovely.”
