Piece of cake

THREE time winners of the Hobsons Bay Business Excellence Awards, Mosaics restaurant in Altona will be entering the awards again in 2012.
The team of three couples, Jarrod and Tina Crowley, Donna and Andrew Sagor and Ehab and Melinda Botros were friends for many years before deciding to risk it all to go into business together.
And despite family and friends warning them to think twice about the partnership, Donna said the venture had been a huge success not just from a business perspective but for their friendship.
“We’re one for the books,” she joked.
Donna said the partnership were like a family.
“Our children have grown up together.”
Mosaics, which is located on Pier St, has been open for about three years and last year won two awards in the Hobsons Bay Business Excellence Awards, the hospitality and good access award.
They also took out the good access award in 2010.
“We’re all Altona people,” said Donna.
“We thought we could add something else to Pier St.
“So we put our minds together and came up with Mosaics.
“It’s bits and pieces of us all – that’s why it’s called Mosaics.”
Donna said she would encourage other business to consider entering the 2012 Hobsons Bay Business Excellence Awards.
“It’s a fabulous thing – you get a lot of satisfaction and recognition for the things you’ve achieved.”
The council is hosting free workshops to provide entrants with advice and tips on how to put forward an award-winning application.
For details on dates and times of the workshops and information on nominating for the awards, contact Sally Curtis on 9932 1000 or email business@hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au.
