AS THE annual Newport Folk Festival approaches, a cappella female trio Powder Room Secrets are preparing to take to the stage.
The group which formed a few years ago after meeting in a choir have now been performing for eight months and hope to add to the cultural life of Newport.
Members Jodie Henry and Megan Slattery work in advertising, and together with performer Donna Jackson they come together as a creative unit.
“We are all creative in our own way and our act is like a floor show; it’s both visual and lyrical which surprises audiences,” Ms Henry said.
“We do songs from all different eras and we rewrite songs people know well and mix it up with a bit of comedy to tie in to our powder room theme.”
Continuing to perform in Hobson’s Bay, Ms Henry said she felt blessed.
“Newport has such a fantastic arts community and cultural life; I don’t know any area in Melbourne that has such a supportive community.”
Excited about performing on Saturday as part of Newport’s Folk Festival, Ms Henry encouraged others to attend.
“I always go to the Newport Folk Festival, there is so much local talent and I think the diversity of what’s on offer is fantastic, it’s encouraging to people whether they sit and enjoy or take part in workshops.”
