ALBANVALE is on the lookout for a new head coach after Robert Scardamaglia informed the club he would not continue in the role.
Scardamaglia coached the Cobras to an 8-10 win/loss record for the season with the club finishing in seventh spot on the division two ladder.
Albanvale president Jason Curmi thanked Scardamaglia for the influence he had on the Cobras while he was in charge.
“He is not continuing. His work commitments have changed and he is doing night shift a lot so he called it quits this year,” Curmi said.
“There are no hard feelings. We didn’t sack him or anything like that. He just no longer has the time to do it but he has been great for the club the last couple of years.”
With the Cobras’ reserves finishing last week, Curmi said the club will begin looking to appoint its new head coach in the next month.
After struggling to compete with the top teams in division two throughout the season, Albanvale is hoping some smart recruiting will lead to finals next year.
“We need a ruckman big time,” Curmi said.
“Our ruck rover from the last two years was playing ruck this year. That’s how much we need it.
“We just have to get a ruckman from somewhere. That is our number one priority.
“Realistically we won’t challenge for a flag but we aren’t far off (finals). Our on-ballers are really good and we are a young side.
“We only had two players over 28 in our side last year. If we get a couple of big guys I think we can challenge to get into the lower ends of the top five no problem.”
