A GROUP of seniors are getting together to enjoy each other’s company through song.
Created in the 1950s the Williamstown Seniors Sing-Along are a group of seniors who are brought together by song and have stayed together though friendship.
Williamstown Seniors president and secretary Marlene Roy said the group was originally started as a way to bring people in the community together.
And that’s exactly what it continues to do.
“It’s ideal for any senior of any age or status of any sort to come along and join in and have a lovely afternoon,” she said.
“We have a joyous afternoon for two hours.”
Mrs Roy, who leads the group in song, said the weekly meetings were a great place to help keep people stay connected in the community.
“I think it’s very, very important (to stay connected), they keep their own identity, they mix with friends and become life-long friends.”
Each participant is given a song book and is accompanied by long time member Graham Howie on piano.
Mrs Roy, who has been with the group for the past nine years said she gets enjoyment from seeing others happy.
“I love the people that come here and I love the atmosphere.”
The Williamstown Seniors Sing-Along meets at the Senior Citizens, 109 Ferguson St Williamstown.
