Awards for Aussie spirit

BRIMBANK City Council has called for nominations to help recognise residents and groups that have contributed to the community.
The council has commenced the nomination process for the 2014 Brimbank Australia Day Awards including the categories of Citizen of the Year, Educator of the Year, the Community Well-being Award, the Environmental Achievement Award and the Cultural Achievement Award.
The council is also seeking nominees for the Brimbank Young Citizen of the Year, for residents aged between 16 and 25 years old.
The award winners will be announced at a special event on Monday 20 January next year.
For the Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year, nominees must reside within the Brimbank municipality.
The other categories are open to residents, plus individuals and groups who conduct their activities within the Brimbank area.
To be eligible for the Citizen of the Year Award, the person must be aged 26 years old and up in January 2014 and be an Australia citizen at 6 December 2013.
The individual must also have made a noteworthy contribution to the Brimbank community during 2013 or have given outstanding service to the community across a number of years.
The Cultural Achievement Award recognises the work done by individuals or groups involved in Brimbank’s culture and arts communities. To submit someone or a group for the awards, see www.brimbank.vic.gov.au and complete a nomination form, then mail it to Media and Communications, Brimbank City Council, PO Box 70, Sunshine VIC 3020.
