THE Melton community is once again being encouraged to open its hearts and support a worthy cause.
After raising more than $8000 last year and attracting a crowd in excess of 500, Ajay’s Pizzeria, launched in honour of Ajay Psaila, will host the event again with organisers hoping to double last year’s success and raise much-needed funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation.
The family day began as a tribute to Ajay Psaila who died after a tragic accident in 2012.
The nine-year-old spent a week in the Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Children’s Hospital before he passed away.
Close family friend and Ajay Pizzeria staff member Colleen Downie said some of last year’s attractions included Michael Jackson impersonator Paul Rizzo, local dance groups, live auctions and market stalls.
“Our goal this year is to double the monies raised and make Ajay’s Family Day 2014 bigger and more successful in achieving this goal and this is where we ask for your help,” Colleen said.
Colleen told Star that while a number of local businesses have already jumped on board to support the cause, there is always room for more.
Organisers are also collecting merchandise and vouchers to sell or auction on the day.
“Your donation will not only be beneficial to your company but will continue to help support the hard work and dedication shown by all at the Royal Children’s Hospital.”
All of the monies raised on the day will be donated in full to the Royal Children’s Hospital.
The event will be held on Sunday 23 March from 10am to 5pm at the outdoor Amphitheatre next to Melton IGA, Palmerston St, Melton.
Members from Melton police and Melton CFA will attend.
Anyone wishing to make a donation can contact Colleen on 0412 218 481.
