MINISTER for Children and Early Childhood Development Wendy Lovell returned to her roots last week to officially open the $9.6 million revamped Paisley Campus of Bayside P-12 College.
Ms Lovell, who opened the new facilities on behalf of Education Minister Martin Dixon said that as a former foundation student of the school, it gave her great pleasure to celebrate the opportunities presented to senior students by the new facilities.
“Students at Bayside P-12 College can now learn and thrive in three truly modern campuses,” Ms Lovell said.
Ms Lovell was joined by local parliamentarians Bernie Finn and Andrew Elsbury and Hobsons Bay City Council mayor Sandra Wilson to open the new campus last Wednesday.
The Paisley Campus rebuild provides the college’s senior students with new specialist facilities including a library; science laboratories, mathematics, English and humanities hubs; a visual arts and performing arts wing; food centre; Year 12 study area; student cafe; and renovated administrative facilities.
The multi-million dollar State Government investment came about after a major education provision review a decade ago.
Campus principal Milan Matejin said the opening of the campus redevelopment was a vital component in building a dynamic learning environment for students from the western side of Melbourne.
“Our new facility will provide students with state-of-the-art facilities to encourage and support them in pursuing excellence in their learning and connectedness to the wider community.”
Ms Lovell agreed the facilities supported and enhanced learning outcomes and boosted student engagement.
“The wide range of specialist facilities means senior students can pursue areas of interest, giving them every opportunity to thrive in their studies,” Ms Lovell said.
