Geary supporters ready for fight

THE fight to keep Reg Geary House continued last month when Melton MP Don Nardella tabled a petition with 146 signatures at Parliament.
The petition called on the Napthine Government to stop the closure of the aged care facility in June this year.
A petition with a further 700 figures was presented to the State Government late last year.
Western Health announced in October that it will be closing Reg Geary House as the ageing building no longer mets the needs of residents.
When announcing the closure a spokesperson for Western Health said the changes were a result of the very small size of the service, with only 30 beds.
There are currently five aged care facilities, including Reg Geary House, operating within the City of Melton, with very limited vacancies.
Mr Nardella also slammed the Victorian Government for not taking a stand against Tony Abbott’s cuts to 80 regional projects.
“Denis Napthine needs to stand up to the Abbott Government and support the vital infrastructure projects at risk for regional Victoria along with the jobs they would generate,” Mr Nardella said.
“Some of the projects at risk in our Moorabool regional vicinity include the $20 million Bacchus Marsh Indoor Aquatic Centre along with the$1 million upgrade to Maddingley Park.”
Mr Nardella said also on the list is the Ballan Recreation Reserve improvement, stage two of the Wallace Pavilion extension, the Bungaree Oval Irrigation automated irrigation system and the Gordon Tennis Court upgrade involving the reconstruction of two tennis courts.
