HOBSONS Bay City Council will ask the State Government for $100,00 for the Range Children’s Centre to allow it to go ahead with plans for an extension.
This will provide places for 10 more children in the babies to two-year-old category.
At present the centre provides kindergarten and childcare services for 223 families.
However, the waiting list is long, with 132 families wanting to get places for their young children.
The council’s application for funding will go to the government’s Children’s Capital Program, which has $38 million available state-wide over four years, starting this year.
The $100,00 for the Range Children’s Centre would allow the development of an architectural concept and cost plans for the extension.
The extension will cost about $150,000, but the centre’s committee of management is committed to a $50,000 contribution.
The council would then consider a similar contribution, depending on the amount received from the government.
