WERRIBEE made it back-to-back VFL wins on Sunday with an impressive 25-point victory against North Ballarat. The Tigers had the better of the contest early, streaking away to a 16-point lead at the first break before the Roosters hit back in the second term.
North Ballarat closed the margin to just two points at the long break, with Liam Anthony causing a number of headaches for the Tigers’ midfielders.
However, the resumption of play saw Werribee lift a gear and take control of the match to run out victors, 14.17 (101) to 10.16 (76).
It was a welcome return for Tiger Ben McKinley, who kicked a game high four goals in his first VFL match for the year.
Scott Clouston was the other multiple goal scorer for the Tigers with two, while eight players kicked one goal.
Around the ground, Levi Greenwood and Jarred Moore were both impressive as was Majak Daw.
The victory sees Werribee move back into the VFL’s top eight with a 4-4 win/loss record from its eight matches.
The Tigers will take on Frankston when round nine gets underway on Saturday.
Elsewhere in the VFL, Williamstown came up short against competition powerhouse Port Melbourne to the tune of 47 points.
It was a tough encounter for the first three quarters, with both sides enjoying periods of time in front of the scoreboard.
Port Melbourne took a 10-point lead into the final term and there would be no looking back as the Borough booted six goals to one to seal the 16.17 (113) to 9.12 (66) win.
Despite the loss, Christian Howard worked hard all afternoon for the Seagulls and was named best on ground.
He was well supported by Western Bulldogs listed players Lachie Hunter and Daniel Cross.
Anthony Anastasio was the only multiple goal scorer for the Seagulls and finished with two.
For Port Melbourne, Dean Galea was at his imposing best with a bag of six goals.
The result sees Williamstown drop to fifth on the VFL ladder with a 5-3 win/loss record.
The next Seagulls game will take place after the Queen’s Birthday long weekend against Bendigo.
