PIC: St Albans youngsters of all abilities will soon be able to play at the new revamped facilies at Errinigton Reserve.
ST ALBANS is one step closer to being the first suburb in Victoria to boast an inclusive playground where people of all ages and abilities can gather and play.
Brimbank Council last week launched its concept plans for the playground, to be built early next year at Errington Reserve.
The plans will now be released for community feedback until 21 September.
The playground is part of a broader scheme to revamp the reserve, located in the heart of St Albans, and will be funded in partnership with Commonwealth Bank Australia and the Touched by Olivia Foundation.
Chair of Brimbank administrators Peter Lewinsky said the council was committed to creating better places for children and families to socialise.
“The opportunity to partner with the Touched by Olivia Foundation to make Brimbank, and, in particular, St Albans the home of the first TBO inclusive playground in Victoria was a fantastic opportunity for council and the community,” Mr Lewinsky said.
“It also sits perfectly with council’s vision for creating improved play spaces, creating connected, supported and welcoming communities, and importantly our vision for the redevelopment of the Errington Precinct.”
The $18 million 10-year Errington Precinct Master Plan was formally adopted by the council in August and will guide future redevelopment of community facilities, recreation spaces and urban improvements for the area.
Touched by Olivia Foundation Playground co-founder John Perkins said St Albans was the ideal location for TBO’s first inclusive playground in Victoria because of its high proportion of residents living with a disability.
“We are also aware of Brimbank’s focus on revitalising their community with the provision of play and social opportunities and programming to support this,” Mr Perkins said.
