A PHOTO competition that encourages the talents of youth to capture the beauty of Hobsons Bay in a click is now open.
Running for its third consecutive year, Pixel8 is open to anyone between 12 and 18 years of age who live, work or study in Hobsons Bay.
Entrants are encouraged to capture positive aspects of Hobsons Bay using two key themes.
The theme community harmony encourages youth to focus pictures of people and cultural diversity.
Community wellbeing/environment is an opportunity to look for the more obscure and unusual places that distinctively represents the area.
Hobsons Bay Police Inspector Richard Paterson agrees with the sentiment of the original project.
“I believe this as an excellent opportunity for young people in Hobsons Bay to photograph our local community and build awareness of the great place in which we live and work,” Insp Paterson said.
“At the same time, they are showing their talents and capturing how they see their own community” Inspector Paterson said.
Newport youth Courtney Elliott, 15, who submitted a winning photo in the competition last year has encouraged others to get involved.
“The competition was a great experience and I would recommend anyone to do,” Courtney said.
Her photo titled “Williamstown Cemetery” won the creative expression award in 2012.
Courtney said her photo, taken at the cemetery after heavy storms and flooding, showed the other side of Williamstown.
The is a joint project between Hobsons Bay Police, the Police Community Consultative Committee (PCCC), Hobsons Bay City Council, Altona Lions Club, Newport Islamic Society and Star Newspaper Group.
