LISTON premiership hero Sam Groth has added another title to his impressive resume. The big-serving Groth cruised to victory in the final of the Mildura Grand International, defeating Liston team mate James Lemke in straight sets 6-1 6-4.
The win capped off a brilliant week for Groth who also won the doubles event with Queenslander John-Patrick Smith.
“Anytime you have a win is great,” Groth said.
“To win the singles and doubles in the same week is a good feeling.
“I got on top early (in the final). I held serve, then broke his first serve. I had break points at 4-0 and ended up winning the set 6-1.
“I got a break again early in the second and carried on from there. I served well all week but I served well again in the match and I didn’t really give him a chance to get back into it.”
So far this year, Groth has made the quarter final of two ATP Challenger events as well as leading Liston to the Asia Pacific Tennis League Championship. He is currently ranked 230 in the world.
