A mystery tour that was kept a secret for six months has been revealed and is sure to spook even the most unflappable.
Lantern Ghost Tours in Williamstown are running their very first mystery ghost tour.
The location has been kept a secret from guests for the last six months and has been revealed to Star for the first time as Henderson’s Piggery.
Lantern Ghost Tours owners Jacqui Travaglian and Andrew Wishart said this is the first time that a historical ghost tour has been conducted in the area.
“We are excited with what we have uncovered,” Ms Travaglian said.
The piggery, nestled on the banks of the Maribyrnong River was established in Footscray in 1972.
“(It) had the unenviable reputation of being in the heart of Melbourne’s more offensive industries such as meatworks, slaughterhouses and tanneries,” Ms Travaglian said.
“Gamblers, murderers and infamous characters from the criminal underworld have all been linked to the salt river, their tales were lost in time but their ghosts still linger,” Ms Travaglian said.
But, despite its horrible history, Henderson’s Piggery is now home to the thriving Footscray Community Arts Centre. The owners said the tour is a great way to learn about the history of the area, the darker and quirkier side of history and the ghosts that still linger.
“There is no telling what will happen on the night… on our other ghost tours we have experienced ghost sightings and unexplained noises, we don’t know what to expect at Henderson’s Piggery,” Ms Travaglian.
The mystery ghost tour will run on Friday 8 March and Friday 12 April. Bookings are essential. Phone 1300 390 119 or visit www.lanternghosttours.com
