SUNSHINE Plaza has become a hub for parents, carers and their children every Thursday with the launch of a playgroup aimed at providing information on Brimbank Council’s services for pre-school children.
Sunshine Plaza Playspace provides bilingual staff to cater for the area’s diverse community and Brimbank chair of administrators Peter Lewinsky said the playgroup has received a positive response with 49 families attending at some time during the first four sessions.
“Playgroup development officers have information on all the playgroups in the municipality, and can assist families to choose the right playgroup for the carers and children,” Mr Lewinsky said.
The staff are also able to speak a wide range of languages including Vietnamese, Hindi, Serbian, Croatian, Macedonian, Bosnian, Arabic and English.
Mr Lewinsky said research had shown a link between a child’s improved development with increased connections with other families.
“Playgroups provide important learning opportunities for children to try different fun activities and make friends with other children,” he said.
The playgroup operates Thursday mornings from 10.30am to noon and is located in front of Woolworths supermarket. All preschool children between 0 and 5 years and their parents, grandparents and carers can attend.
