TWO year 12 students at Mount St Joseph’s Girls College wowed the judges at last month’s Fashion Awards Australia regional finals – with their designs being selected go into the grand final this Saturday.
Natashia Devic, 18, and Kayla Napoli, 17, who are both studying VCE Design Technology, created the evening dresses as part of their VCE assessment.
“I wanted to create a stylish-chic, party dress,” Kayla said.
Ebony said she was surprised and excited to have been selected to go through to the grand finale.
The budding fashionistas were the only two students from their school to enter the competition and have already been accepted into the Melbourne School of Fashion next year.
“Our parents are over the moon,” Kayla said.
Both Kayla and Natashia said they were considering entering their creations into Top Designs Exhibition – which see the selected garments go on display at the National Gallery of Victoria next year.
Despite being all the talent behind designs and manufacturing of the catwalk worthy dresses, the girls couldn’t have done it without the help of their obliging models, Ebony and Catherine – who strutted their stuff for the judges last month.
The regional finals were held at the Wyndham Leisure and Events Centre in Hoppers Crossing and were attended by more than 400 fashion enthusiasts.
The grand final will be held this Saturday evening at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in the city and the girls are positively thrilled to be vying for the winning prize.
