Lions roar into town

HUNDREDS of Lions Club members will head to Hobsons Bay for an annual convention next week.
The Lions Club of Altona has planned the 2012 Lions Club District 201V2 Convention between Friday
and Sunday.
More than 400 Lions Club members, partners and international guests will attend the event.
The convention will include members from the West and as far away as Horsham, Kaniva and Portland, areas which make up the Lions Club district known as 201V2.
On Friday night at 8pm, the event’s opening ceremony and flag parade will be held at the Williamstown Town Hall.
Guest Melissa Tapper – a Paralympian and international table tennis representative – will also be introduced.
Saturday evening will include a social evening at Grand Star Receptions in Altona North with attendees in costume.
District Governor Lou Scholten from the Werribee Lions Club will oversee the event.

The theme for this year’s event is: “We are the World” to show how far the Lions Clubs International has travelled around the globe since being founded in 1917.

The convention will allow members and partners to meet for a range of business and social activities over the period of the convention.

The Lions Club of Altona said in planning the event they had received generous support from the Hobsons Bay City Council, neighbouring Lions Clubs, motel and accommodation venues and traders around Williamstown, Altona and the general Hobsons Bay area.
