MEET Footscray West Primary School’s new kid on the block.
Lauren Jamieson, 23, is the new Grade 1 and 2 teacher, after completing an accelerated Prep to 12 teaching degree at Victoria University.
Ms Jamieson, who is also a West Footscray resident, was thrilled to get a position at Footscray West Primary School after completing her final teaching placement there last year.
“I love the school and I’d heard a lot of good things about it,” she said.
“Everyone has been very welcoming, even when I was a pre-service teacher.”
Ms Jamieson is no stranger to teaching, having taught dance only a few streets away from her new place of employment since she was a teen.
Ms Jamieson spent last week setting up her classroom before meeting her class of 22 for the first time on Friday.
She told Star she relished the opportunity to start her teaching career at primary level.
“The kids look up to you
in primary school. I just think you get more out of it,” she said.
Around 866,000 students went back to school last week, including 70,000 Preps.
