Many future supporters of the Western Bulldogs football team are born at the Sunshine Hospital every week.
It has been predicted 6000 births will occur at Sunshine Hospital during 2013, 1000 more than the previous year.
A group called The Western Health Foundation raises funds for equipment, to fund medical research and to provide scholarships, for staff at Western Health – who work at hospitals in Sunshine, Footscray and Williamstown.
On Saturday 11 May, the Western Health Foundation will be the match day partner for the Western Bulldogs when they play against North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.
This is the second year the foundation has been a match day partner for the Western Bulldogs.
“We are thrilled that this year it falls on the Mother’s Day weekend, as we are launching a new community engagement program with the Bulldogs to raise awareness and funds for maternal health at Western Health,” Western Health Foundation Trusts, Foundations and Corporate Relations manager, Simonne Michelle-Wells said.
“We’re pleased to have the support of the Bulldogs in sharing our passion for growing healthy babies in the west, many of which will no doubt become healthy Bulldogs supporters.”
The Western Health Foundation is currently recruiting volunteers to help on game day, who will be dressed in hospital scrubs and selling Western Health branded wristbands for a gold coin donation with the slogan ‘Growing Healthy Bulldogs’.
“Many residents of the Eest receive their health care through Western Health and are passionate Western Bulldogs fans, so the wristbands were a logical step in bringing the two community focused groups together,” Ms Michelle-Wells said.
