A TAYLORS Lakes resident is calling on Brimbank Council to ensure all street lighting in the area is working.
Erol Babacan said it was only a matter of time before tragedy strikes and a pedestrian is injured or even killed.
The concerned father claimed he “need only drive one kilometre in any direction” and would be able to find installed lighting not working.
After living in the area for over a decade, Mr Babacan said he had only noticed the problem in the last couple of years and said it was particularly unsafe in the streets around Watergardens Town Centre.
He cited the area at the roundabout near the McCubbin Drive entrance all the way around through to the roundabout past Watergardens station as a serious safety hazard.
“The roundabouts are of very high concern as commuters make their way to car parks and cross at night where there is no lighting,” he said.
Only last month, Mr Babacan had to swerve to miss a pedestrian who was crossing the street, because the person was barely visible.
“It’s an accident waiting to happen.
“At roundabouts, it’s even more dangerous. I would like to see the council patrol the area to make sure the lights are working and get them fixed.
“I have complained to the authorities several times and requested they patrol the areas on a more regular basis but to no avail.
“We shouldn’t have to wait until someone gets hurt.”
Mr Babacan, who used to walk at night in the area, said he was reluctant to do so now as the onset of winter meant the area was even darker.
Star contacted Brimbank Council but they failed to respond by deadline.
