FIREFIGHTERS are investigating the cause of a blaze that resulted in $450,000 worth of damage to a home in Keilor East last week.
Fire crews were called to the Grandchester Avenue home at 7.15am on Wednesday after neighbours heard both smoke alarms and burglar alarms go off in the house.
The owner was at the gym at the time.
Fire investigators believe the fire began in the rear of the house and quickly spread throughout the building via the roof space.
It took 22 firefighters 30 minutes to control the blaze from outside the building, with fears the roof would collapse.
The damage bill was estimated at $450,000 and the house is likely to require demolition.
