The phoneline is for residents who want to report issues including foul smells, high levels of dust and dumped rubbish.
There were 100 reports from November 09 to November 10 across Ardeer, Deer Park, St Albans, Sunshine, Sunshine North and Sunshine West, according to the EPA.
“More than half have come from Sunshine and the majority of those have been made during the autumn months,” an EPA spokeswoman said.
The spokeswoman said the calls related to “a number of different issues but the bulk are for odour attributed to industry in the Brooklyn area.”
In February, Star reported that some Brooklyn residents, fed up with the odour and noise from the suburb’s industrial precinct, were alarmed an EPA study discovered dust in the suburb’s air at levels which could cause asthma attacks, respiratory and heart problems in healthy adults and children.
Within a 100-day period, airborne “PM10” particles were recorded at more than double the annual national safety standard.
Sunshine Residents and Ratepayers Association member Gary Collins said their complaints dated back to 2009.
“Last year we complained about the dust because of the strong southerly winds. Dust was covering our houses left, right and centre,” he said.
“The council, the EPA, everyone said they were working on it, here we are three and a half weeks into the warmer weather and we’ve had about five ‘very poor’ days and it’s not even summer yet.”
The EPA spokeswoman said the organisation was “continuing its work in the Brooklyn area and is ensuring companies take appropriate action”.
