Skills to the fore

By Alesha Capone
WPC Group CEO Nicholas Wyman said “there is a need for upgrading skilled jobs programs in other areas for Victoria to regain skills job capacity relative to the rest of Australia,” he said.
He has also urged political parties not to lose the “momentum and interest: in the Green Skills program, which advocated for the creation of “green-collar” jobs in industries like renewable energy, water and energy efficiency.
The program also placed trainees into entry-level positions with sustainability embedded into their training packages.
“Many companies and workplaces are looking for people to train for emerging green markets by integrating environmental approaches and values into the apprenticeships and traineeships on offer,” Mr Wyman said.
“Young people should know that many companies and workplaces are looking for ways to operate sustainably, from an environmental perspective.
“They are serious about training in green skills – integrating ‘green’ approaches and values into the apprenticeships and traineeships on offer.”
