A FREE Christmas lunch organised by prominent members of the Melton community was a hit with locals and will become an annual event.
Melton Christmas Day Lunch Committee secretary Nib De Santis said the inaugural event was a “huge success” and assisted many of Melton’s disadvantaged families who would have otherwise spent the day alone and probably without a celebratory lunch.
“The lunch, which was held at the Melton Community Hall, was packed to almost overflowing as unexpected, but welcome, extra guests attended,” Mr De Santis said.
Mr De Santis said the group had originally expected the number of guests to be around 140 but more than 200 people attended the event.
Anglican Christ Church Vicar Sr Elisa said given the enormous patronage this year, the lunch is sure to get bigger and better each year and will become a popular event on the Melton community calendar.
“I was gladdened to see the joy on the faces of all guests, especially the children who attended,” Sr Elisa said.
