FOR more than 17 years Jim Giddings has worked tirelessly to help reduce Wyndham’s road toll and make public transport accessible by as many people as possible.

The former head of the Wyndham Transport Advisory Committee was given a formal send off at last month’s Wyndham Council meeting.

Mr Giddings contribution to the community and his ability to see issues through to the end was recognised by Mayor Heather Marcus.

But the passionate advocate for road safety has no intentions of slowing down as he will continue in his role as the Chairman of the RoadSafe Westgate Community Road Safety Council.

Mr Giddings said he had stayed in the role for so long because he felt he was still achieving positive results.

“In another life when I was a councillor I was in charge of the transport portfolio and after I left council I found that it was still a real passion of mine for a long time,” Mr Giddings said.

“I still wanted to achieve changes for Wyndham.”

Mr Giddings said he had every confidence in the new head of the WTAC, John Menegazzo, but that Wyndham had some major challenges ahead of it.

“There are still major public transport issues, the frequency between buses is still far too large,” he said.

“If they can increase the amount of bus services to meet the connecting trains then Wyndham will overcome a lot of its congestion issues.”
