IF YOU are around the bays or water in Williamstown this summer, chances are you will meet the newest addition to the Parks Victoria team.
Toby Stringer has joined Parks Victoria to help manage the bays, marine national parks and sanctuaries in Williamstown.
Over the next three months Toby will join 38 new recruits and returning volunteers as Parks Victoria’s summer rangers.
Toby recently graduated from university with a diploma of conservation and land management and has qualifications in coastal management.
“I just love Victoria’s marine environment. We are lucky to have such a rich and varied species and landscapes underwater. It’s so important that we continue to protect them,” Toby said.
Toby, who makes the commute from Ocean Grove each day, said he was amazed at the amount of “unspoilt marine environment” right in Williamstown.
“It’s really important that we raise the awareness of the area and how unique it is and the diversity of life.
“The amount of stuff that’s 30 metres off the shore, it’s hard to believe if you don’t go out and have a look.”
Toby ultimately wants to take as much away from the experience as possible.
“The job has so much variety to it. I am really enjoying working alongside and learning from local rangers and being able to share my passion for the marine environment with visitors.”
