LITTLE brides and grooms, and their bridal parties, walked the altar last week at Albion North Primary School’s big Italian wedding.
The students dressed in their best clothes to enjoy a full day of traditional Italian wedding celebrations that included pizza served for the main course and Galati for dessert.
Each classroom played dress up with a make believe bride and groom, bridesmaids, groomsmen and a flower girl and pageboy to complete the bridal party.
Teacher Shanna De Brincat said it was a fun way for the children to embrace Italian culture given that the language was a LOTE subject at school.
“We have an Italian-themed day every year and this year the theme is an Italian wedding,” Ms De Brincat said.
“It’s important for our school to embrace the LOTE that we learn here and it’s a way to encourage the students to be enthusiastic about learning other languages and learning about other cultures,” she said.
Ms De Brincat said the students were very excited about the celebrations and enjoyed preparing for the event by creating bonbonnieres and special placemats.
The students also learnt to sing Italian songs including, “That’s Amore” and wrapped up the wedding and the term, dancing the day away.
“We’ve got very diverse school in terms of cultures, so we have been talking about multiculturalism and we have spoken about other celebrations that different cultures have as well,” she said.
