FOUR people, including two teenagers, have been arrested following the alleged sexual assault of teenage girl.
The Footscray Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (SOCIT) arrested a 16-year-old Werribee girl, a 16-year-old Bundoora boy, a 19-year-old Glenroy man and 20-year-old Altona Meadows man, last Tuesday following an alleged sexual assault in January.
Police allege a teenage girl was sexually assaulted at an Altona Meadows party where the incident was filmed and uploaded onto social networking sites.
The four young people were released pending summons, expected to be charged with sexual penetration of a child under 16, manufacturing child pornography and distributing child pornography.
They will appear in court at a later date.
Detective Senior Sergeant Jenny Wilson said this incident is a timely reminder to both parents and young people of the darker side of social networking.
“The power of the internet when used in negative ways can do untold damage to individuals, ruin reputations and have a lifelong impact on employment prospects,” she said.
“Police urge parents to talk to with their children about both the positive and negative aspects of the internet, to monitor both use and content and advise young people about what is appropriate to post and what is not.”
