MARGARET Giudice hopes to raise much-needed funds for cancer research this month and will be inspired by the memory of her beloved mother, Maria.
The Keilor Downs resident and Club Italia committee member is co-ordinating an evening tea later this month to raise vital funds for the Cancer Council.
Ms Giudice encouraged all Brimbank residents to attend the charity night at Club Italia on Friday 25 May and said there wouldn’t be anyone in the community that hasn’t been touched by cancer in some way.
“It’s a way of celebrating their lives and remembering the people we’ve lost,” she said.
The grandmother of six was personally affected by cancer with the passing of her mother in 2009 and said there wasn’t a day that she didn’t recall fond memories of her mum who fought breast cancer for over a decade.
She said it was important that people were vigilant and kept a close check on their health.
“Early testing is so important. If you think something may be wrong, just go along to a doctor and check it out and if you’re not happy with that, get a second opinion.”
Ms Giudice said it was important that people realised there were avenues available to help save or even prolong their lives, but none of these would be possible if money wasn’t raised for the Cancer Council.
“My mother had 13 extra years on her life. She saw her grandchildren being born and her youngest son being married.”
She said more research needed to be done and any money raised on the evening would go towards further research.
Anyone interested in attending the event should contact Club Italia on 9367 4187 or Margaret Giudice 0418 141 226.
