FOOTSCRAY Edgewater has been dealt a blow on the eve of the Premier Cricket season with Wes Robinson set to depart from the club.
Robinson will play the first two matches of the year before moving back to his home state of Western Australia.
Footscray Edgewater captain Dean Russ said it was a massive loss for the group.
“I will expect two big games from him (Robinson) and then he goes back to WA,” Russ said.
“That hit the group pretty hard. We love Wes and what he brings to the group as well.
“At the moment we are still trying to tinker with how we are going to approach that and life after Wes. There are a few things they are still trying to work out behind the scenes.”
After joining Footscray for the 2012/13 season, Robinson was a star of the competition scoring 693 runs at an average of 43.31.
He also formed an imposing opening partnership with Russ at the top of the order with both batsman in the top six on the competition’s leading run scorers list.
Footscray Edgewater assistant coach Duncan Harrison said the club was looking at its options for replacing Robinson.
“That is a very significant loss,” he said.
“I think there is a little bit going on behind the scenes. Hopefully we will get something soon to fill that spot.”
