RED CROSS is calling for urgent donations of pre-loved summer clothing with local stores almost cleared of what little stock they had.
Altona warehouse quality control co-ordinator Christine Baker said they were in absolute desperate need for ladies’ summer clothing, particularly dresses but anything light and in good condition.
“They are the main stock we can’t seem to get enough of. Because we service so many shops the demand is just huge,” she said.
Ms Baker said they currently have a five-week supply of summer clothing that will only get them to the start of December.
She said they are urging people to go through their wardrobe and if you didn’t wear it last summer donate it to someone in need.
“Our shops are a huge part of collecting money for our charitable organisation so we can help others in need and our humanitarian causes.”
National marketing manager Jayne-Anne Power said Red Cross has 159 recycle shops around the country and donated good make up 90 per cent of their sales.
“We now need to fill our stores with good quality, affordable summer stock to satisfy our customer’s needs and help raise money for Red Cross,” she said.
“As well as every day wear, our shoppers are constantly on the lookout for quirky fashion items such as vintage wear.”
To donate your clothing to Red Cross simply walk into your local store and hand your items across the counter or place them in the donation box at the entrance to each store.
