Sun shines on hospital

SUNSHINE Hospital will throw its doors open to the public on Sunday 13 October.
Open Sunshine, a community day at the medical facility will include activities such as a jumping castle, face painting, roving entertainers and a toy hospital where children can bring their sick toys to visit the doctor.
A health and wellbeing zone where people can have free health checks will also be held, along with talks on topics such as nutrition and healthy ageing and participate in interactive workshops.
Performers, a visit from the Western Bulldogs Mascot ‘Woofy’, maternity information sessions and a behind-the-scenes tours of the hospital including the ‘basement engine room’ will be other attractions on the day.
Hungry visitors will be catered for with food stalls and a sausage sizzle lunch.
Chief Executive of Western Health, Associate Professor Alex Cockram said the West was one of Victoria’s fastest growing regions.
“With over 5000 babies born at Sunshine Hospital every year and one of the busiest Emergency Departments, Sunshine Hospital is supporting local community growth and providing local families with access to leading-class facilities,” Associate Professor Cockram said.
“The public will have the opportunity to tour these buildings and more as part of the Open Sunshine community event.
“We are delighted to welcome local community members to Sunshine Hospital to celebrate the fantastic services on offer and have a fun family day out.”
The Open Sunshine event will be on from 11am – 3pm on Sunday 13 October at Sunshine Hospital, in Furlong Rd, St Albans.
