MELTON police are encouraging residents to attend their annual Community Safety Day and gain some helpful insights on how to keep safe.
Vehicle rescue demonstrations, police horses and free child restraint fittings will be among the attractions on offer at this year’s safety day, which will be held outside the Melton Library and Learning Hub on Sunday 20 October.
Emergency services, including Victoria Police, SES, and the CFA, will be bringing along some of their big toys including a historical police car, motorbike and a fire truck.
There will also be a mobile police facility, booze bus and children’s activities including finger-printing and demonstrations from Youth and Crime Prevention Officers, while the CFA will run vehicle and fire extinguisher demonstrations with Captain Koala providing information on home fire safety.
And the Sheriff will be in town for the day with a mobile justice centre and an example of a clamped car on hand to demonstrate the consequences of dangerous driving.
Parents can take advantage of free vehicle child restraint fittings and there will also be an opportunity to have number plate security screws fitted.
Event organiser Sergeant Marty Wallace said the day promised to be a fantastic event for all to attend.
“The aim of the day is to increase the perception of safety within our Melton community through a range of displays and demonstrations,” Sgt Wallace said.
“This is a free event and we encourage people of all ages to attend. Young and old can learn about fire, road and community safety while enjoying a fun day out and meeting some new people and fellow residents.”
“There are plenty of activities for the kids with some important safety messages behind them.”
Melton City Council mayor Kathy Majdlik said the event highlighted the important role of community safety within the area.
“Community safety has many aspects such as crime prevention and road safety, but at its core it is about promoting wellbeing, looking out for one another and working together to improve safety for all,” Cr Majdlik said.
The Melton Community Safety Day is running from 11am to 3pm outside the Melton Library and Learning Hub, McKenzie Street, Melton.
