FOR Kitrina Vu, years of studying will culminate in the ultimate runway experience later this month.
The Sunshine North resident will be among six Bachelor of Design Arts students, including another Brimbank resident Vi Vuong, to exhibit their unique fashion collections at the Inaugural Graduate Fashion Show on 18 November at the Australian Academy of Design.
Three years of studies will be realised in the definitive fashion runway show for students nearing completion of the course. The six students were allowed to explore their individual styles and aesthetics and were inspired by diverse genres including 1970’s music to middle-eastern cultures. Collections will showcase selected items from resort style casuals, after-five separates, distinctive PM dressing as well as a dedicated group of theatre costumes.
Ms Vu, 20, said her love for fashion began at an early age, when her mother would buy her a new outfit almost every day.
“As a teenager I knew this was what I wanted to do,” the talented designer said.
Over time she has developed her own style and spent the last 12 months designing and producing resort-style apparel which will be showcased at the upcoming fashion show.
Inspired by fashion houses Chanel and Gucci, Ms Vu said she hoped the show would highlight her dedication to the industry and said it was her dream to one day crack the big time.
She described her designs as catering to the mainstream market, but also showing a slightly quirky side, making them one of a kind.
“I’m proud of the end result and really excited about what’s to come.
“It’s a hard industry to crack, but I hope to get my foot in the door.”
