Melton Council joins the fight

MELTON Shire Council Mayor Justin Mammarella has backed campaigns to stop family violence.
Cr Mammarella met with Keilor MP Natalie Hutchins to discuss her reports on family violence in Keilor.
The report called for more funding for support services, police, justice services and programs for behavioural change (More help needed on family violence, 6 September, Keilor Star).
Cr Mammarella said family violence was unacceptable and announced the council would be working with Ms Hutchins on a campaign to lobby for increased support services in the West.
“As a community, we need to send the message that violence against anyone won’t be tolerated,” Cr Mammarella said.
“I commend Natalie Hutchins for her great work in raising awareness of this issue and I pledge my full support to those community members who confront these terrible circumstances.”
He said the campaign would be in keeping with the council’s White Balloon Day campaign, which advocates for “zero-tolerance against child abuse”.
Melton Shire commemorates the day on 7 September annually to coincide with National Child Protection Week.
