TAYLORS Hill preschoolers have had their creative ideas and aspirations incorporated into the new public artwork at their kindergarten.
The sculpture, entitled ‘From Here to Where: The Lost Landscape of Tomorrow’, was unveiled by Melton City Council mayor Kathy Majdlik earlier this month.
The project involved the creation of an artwork that spans a 25-metre wall and encompasses the Taylors Hill Kindergarten’s outdoor play space. Children’s ideas for birds, animals and landscapes were incorporated into the piece.
Cr Kathy Majdlik said the council was very pleased to have commissioned artwork as part of its public art program.
“Council’s public art program aims to engage the community by supporting projects that develop ideas, exchange of skills and explore contemporary arts practice to further enhance spaces and places throughout our municipality,” she said.
She said public art fosters civic pride and confidence, and contributes to community cohesion, social health and well-being, which makes us feel happy.
“The art piece fills and animates a public space that was previously considered harsh and unwelcoming. Now, the space is imaginative, intriguing and encourages play, discovery and interaction.”
The sculpture was created by artists Nicole Snelleskz and Brad Vermont.
