MELTON City Council is encouraging local environment groups to apply for one of five $1000 community environment grants on offer as part of World Environment Day celebrations.
To be eligible to apply for the grants, groups must be undertaking work on public land within the municipality or must be running programs or projects involving the community in environmental or sustainability education.
Mayor Kathy Majdlik said the grants helped to acknowledge the good work being done by local environment groups which benefits the community.
“Council is committed to protecting and enhancing our environment for future generations, and it is through programs such as this that we can help that to happen,” Cr Majdlik said.
Grants will be presented at a special celebration at Melton Community Hall on 5 June.
Application forms are available from the council’s website www.melton.vic.gov.au or by phoning the council’s environmental services on 9747 7200.
