WHEN the lights go down and the performers in Sunshine Community Theatre’s latest show take to the stage, the audience will be in for a treat.
‘Wait Until Dark’, a thriller from playwright Frederick Knott, will run in North Sunshine from 12 to 20 April.
Young Albanvale residents Cameron Tougher and Loren Howard have been working on the show for several weeks.
Cameron is a first-time director and Loren is a stage hand, costume designer and front-of-house designer.
The pair met while they were students at Keilor Downs College six years ago.
“It’s good to be working with my best friend,” Cameron said.
“It’s the first time ever Sunshine Theatre has had theatre in the round and the show will have people on the edge of their seats and their heart-strings will be pulled as well.
“It’s my first time directing and I have loved ‘Wait Until Dark’ since I saw at the age of about 12 or 13 with my grandparents.
“Since then I’ve had the program at home and thought it would make a very good show, and I was talking to people at the theatre about it.
“They said, ‘why don’t you direct it?’ and I said, ‘but I’ve never directed before’.”
However, Cameron said he had enjoyed putting together his first show and said he hoped to co-direct a show with Loren in the future.
“When you meet people in the theatre and build up friendships with them, that is priceless,” Loren said.
‘Wait Until Dark’ will be on 12, 13, 18 and 19 April at 8pm, 14 April at 3pm and 20 April at 2pm and 8pm at Demspter Park Hall, 82 Phoenix St, North Sunshine. Tickets: $15 adults, $12 concession.
