Thieves strike in new estates

CONSTRUCTION sites and schools across Melton and Caroline Springs have once again been the target of thieves.
Melton Police are calling on public assistance after a spate of burglaries over the past fortnight and are keen to receive information from the public.
Residents are urged to report any suspicious behaviour witnessed on weekends and after hours at schools and new housing estates.
The flood of thefts began in late March when construction sites in Melton West, Melton, Plumpton and Eynesbury were the target of vandals.
Granite bench tops, laminated cupboards, a dishwasher and a split-system air conditioner were stolen.
On 30 March, jewellery and electrical items including computers and game consoles were taken from a home in Harrington Drive, Melton West. Police believe the offender reversed a vehicle into the driveway to load stolen property.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday 2 April, offenders entered the maintenance shed at Catholic Regional College in Melton and stole power tools including an air compressor, bench saw and Makita power saw.
A wheelbarrow belonging to the school was also taken and police presume it was used to transport the stolen goods.
On Wednesday 3 April, thieves forced their way into classrooms at Wedge Park Primary School and stole a computer and projector. Alarms were activated but the offenders left before police arrived.
