FIREFIGHTERS battling a blaze at a Cairnlea home allegedly uncovered up to 25 cannabis plants in two bedrooms.
Just after midnight on 29 June, Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) crews attended a fire at the Eaglehawk Circuit house.
Upon arriving, they discovered the single-storey brick house was already “well” alight.
MFB officers who searched the house found no-one inside.
The fire took almost 30 minutes to bring under control and caused “extensive fire, heat and smoke damage throughout the entire property”.
Crews who searched the residence allegedly discovered illicit drugs and up to 25 hydroponic cannabis plants being grown under sunlamps.
Six MFB fire trucks and a CFA vehicle attended the fire scene.
An MFB officer remained at the home overnight to extinguish and clean up after the fire.
The MFB and CFA also attended another blaze at a Sunshine home on the same day as the Cairnlea fire.
Firefighters arrived at the Ridgeway Parade home at around 1.35am, after seeing flames from the freeway as they drove to the emergency.
The house has been severely damaged by the fire and large sections of its roof collapsed in the heat.
The cause of both fires remains unknown and investigations are continuing.
