Gully steams on

GREEN Gully’s undefeated run in the Victorian Premier League was extended to five consecutive games on Sunday after the Cavaliers scored an impressive 3-1 away win over South Melbourne.
The Cavaliers have not lost since their 2-0 defeat at the hands of Northcote City, the last match overseen by former coach Dean Hennessy before his sacking from the VPL giant back in May.
Coming off a solid 2-0 win away to the Dandenong Thunder a week earlier, Green Gully followed up in fine fashion at South Melbourne’s Lakeside Stadium.
Osagie Ederaro struck first for Gully in the 15th minute with a headed goal that was soon cancelled by Andy Vlahos 16 minutes later.
With scores deadlocked at 1-1 at half-time it was the visitors who managed to continue their good recent form in the second half, finding the back of the net twice more through Jason Hayne and Daniel Jones.
It was just Green Gully’s fourth win for the season, having notched up three losses and four draws to date.
Despite gaining the much-needed three points the Cavaliers remain eighth on the table, but are only four points out of the top five.
Currently occupying that fifth spot are the Melbourne Knights, who fought out a fairly uneventful 0-0 draw on the road against Pascoe Vale on Friday night.
Both clubs will be back on home turf this weekend, with Green Gully set to host Hume City on Saturday and Melbourne Knights facing battlers, Richmond, on Sunday.
